If you want to share it in a repo, I would recommend GitHub over SVN. It is eaier for the community to help and you with your project if you want it to be open source. Maybe I'll try to have some help from other community too like OpenGameArt to join in your project.

It depends on your computer. The lower the better but you're asking for recommended right. This is based on my own experience. Trees and other mapmodels:1k or lower (cause you may use them a lot) Characters: 4k-1k should be good on most pc, characters tended to have more detail than others. But ofc ...

I recommand Codeblock with MinGW other than that I can't help with VS. But it seem that your download if broken since it is missing some stuff (rpgobjects.cpp maybe) Try redownload the game. Btw use the moddb link since the link in the website is broken.

Idk what to say since the ideal editing view is in first person mode. You can switch to thirdperson mode by typing "thirdperson 1" in the console. (enter the console by pressing the "~" key". I'm too can feel what you meant when I'm making maps. Brothers LOL
