Re: Models vs. Performance

I was wondering...

How much is the lag due to the number of tri's and how much is due to the number of models that the engine has to keep track of.
In other words, which slows the frame-rate down more; one 50,000 tri mapmodel, or 50 1,000 tri mapmodels?

Re: Potential Player Models and Weapons

a single player game could use kid-style robots that spark a lot and stop working when they get wet...kids save planet from aliens or mad scientist! if a particle generator can be tagged to a bad guy's armature, then the particles could be fire and the kids save the world from lava monsters by putti...

crosshairs in edit mode

I've just got the latest svn set up to play again, but the mouse control/ crosshair movement is changed in a way I do not like; the mouse moves the crosshair around without moving the camera except when you try to go past the screen edges. I don't like it that much, to be honest. is there a setting ...

Re: finally starting to get some free time again

yay, I got 2.7.1 compiled and running nicely 'make -C enet distclean' worked wonders and the compile went smoothly and everything started up just fine. the svn did not compile nicely, even after the above was done. it went very smooth until it choked on fpsgame/waypoint.cpp, whereupon it stopped wit...

finally starting to get some free time again

Finally got time to put my computer together....being a newlywed is time-consuming! 2.7.1 can't seem to find the binaries, but 2.7 runs very nice. Finally compiled svn trunk, but I had to use the "make -C enet distclean" bit to do it, and now the svn can't seem to find the binaries either....

Re: Night and Day?

because the problems stem from the way sunlight casts shadows as opposed to SB's static lightmaps, the most obvious solution might be to cycle day/night for an overcast day where directional shadows are minimized. Change light levels as the day progresses with gamma and fog values an overcast skybox...

Re: Grass variables

yep As I recall, the first texture slots are the default textures for the top, each side, and the bottom of the default cubes. I plan on making a 'mapping' .cfg that sets them to dev-textures with slightly different colors for each side, so that I can see what side is visible after moving corners ar...

Re: Pulling you map out of Sandbox?

getting a map out is easy enough, but putting it back into SandBox is a bit of trouble, eh?
