Usually to gain a title such as a moderator you have to accomplish something great, get somewhat popular and be given the choice.

They did ask, "Interested in joining the team? Apply here." (pretty much) Also, I'm not expecting to be made a mod immediately because they probably have to clear it with everyone. I'm fine with waiting
