Can I insert other character and objects and images from say FPS Maker, Unity, or Real Illusion I-clone 4?
This is kind of the wrong forum topic (and forum/subforum in general; we have a support section), but I'll answer that anyways.

Sandbox's core is the Cube 2 Engine. The Cube 2 engine is the successor to the original Cube engine, which was used as an FPS game engine. Cube 2: Sauerbraten is an online FPS game which uses the Cube 2 engine (hence the "Cube 2" in the name). Sandbox is a kid-friendly mod of Sauerbraten, using many similar textures and other content.

As for the character/object and image thing, that depends. For characters and objects, they would have to be in the .obj (just objects), .md2, .md3, .md5, .smd or .iqm formats to work. For the images, I believe you mean textures, which should be .jpg or .png (I don't know if .gif works, and I believe that .tga won't work).

This artist has a lot of great low-poly models plus a ton of textures that you can also find on opengameart: http://nobiax.deviantart.com/.

I've also found a site with a lot of skyboxes that include some that Sandbox might need in terms of theme (e.g. snowy, desert, space): http://www.3delyvisions.com/skf1.htm

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread by the looks. I am really exited by the idea of a kid friendly FPS. For me personally, this project looks like somewhere i can improve my skills. I hope you guys are still on board with this idea. I have a waterblaster that i think would be perfect. it's a cartoony representation of a waterblaster (super soaker breaches copyright) that i created when i saw what you were trying to do here. If the water gun wars (i think more kid friendly would be "Waterblast World' without the words gun or war) is still up and active, please let me know. I really think this can work as a way to get kids to this sandbox.

Anyway. model is here http://www.pasteall.org/blend/17363

Let me know what you think.

There are some great resources for free audio/sound effects in this article:
http://mightyfingers.com/blog/where-can ... for-games/

If you are looking for graphics then this article has some good resources:

There are plenty of places to find free sounds/graphics. Ideally, finding ones that don't require credit attribution helps as you don't need a long list of credits at the end of the game.
