I asked, didn't get much of an answer, so I googled and tried, and googled and tried, and found a way to do it !!
This is Not a finished model, as it only has a few animations. In fact it's just a first attempt. But it worked, and I thought I'd share what I found ..

I went a different route Using CharacterFX for bones and animation. It's a much simpler program for this and much easier to
animate in than Blender. One could also use Pacemaker with it's Physics in the same manor!
