GoBologna's Submission

Post by GoBologna120 »

Well, here it is. My contest submission. I took a different route than the others this time around. The map is called Black Hole Castle and it's for the side-scrolling platformer mode. It's a rather small map, but I worked very hard on it, especially the entrance room. Please let me know how you like it. ;)

Here's the link:

BTW it's for the SVN version.

It's just a shame SSP is in a rather rudimentary state...

packaging

pros
* zip

cons
* the first folder was black_hole_castle instead of packages
* no mapshots

you can still have a 4/5 here

the map

pros
* FIRE!!!
* adrenaline fueled jumppadding!

cons
* the music gets a bit annoying quite quickly
* you misspelled Congratulations
* a fair bit of the map isn't lit, and not very detailed
* certain areas would've been easier to explore if a better camera angle was provided

I can't decide if I should penalise you for a lack of pickups or not..

I'll give you a 3/5

this averages 3.25 after weighting, so I'm voting 3 :)
This is not a url, clicking it is pointless

I'm going to vote 4/5, reasons are as stated.
I love the originality you added, your own music..and it's an SSP!
Your mapping is great for an SSP, it really looks like you put some time into it.
The way the angle changes is also unique, and the fact it's a castle in the middle of nowhere is awesome!
Packing is almost perfect, you're missing a screenie.

Thanks guys. I know my map isn't perfect, but it's really my first full map with ssp mode. I just wanted to do something different and have fun with it. :)

I think this map has a lot of potential if you work on the camera angles a bit. One thing I have always disliked in games is blind jumps and there were a few.

You certainly did try something new and I commend you on the effort. I liked a lot of the background scenery though mapmodels and maybe even characters would have been a neat touch. Also the spelling error at the end as Hirato mentioned was a little problem. Fix the camera angles and give it a little more life and I think you have a pretty cool map. Power ups would be neat too. Hirato also needs to add moving enemies and then the map could be really something! (Oh yeah he needs to add elevators and platforms too HEHE). Take care and nice work!

Fix up the camera angle problems and I'd be interested in putting this into Sandbox with your permission. To siim, clicking on sidescroller.bat is usually a good first step :D Take care.
