Sandbox 2.5 to 2.6

Post by idunno »

Just wondering...

I recently (ie. 2 weeks ago) downloaded Sandbox 2.5 but now am considering downloading 2.6.
If I do download 2.6, will I have two separate Sandbox programs or will 2.6 be like an expansion pack for 2.5???

I hope that makes sense.

To answer your question, yes, you will have two programs
Project 1: Da Chest Collector [TBD]
Project 2: Tis a secret [End of summer] announcement June 22 2011
Project 3: An even bigger secret!

something you might wanna check are the (mapname)-art.cfg files, because when I transferred maps from 2.4 to 2.5, they didn't include new models and textures, so that's something you wanna think about.

If you want, you could say 2.5 and 2.6 are two roads leading off from one road, they're that different (so it's like a giant Y, if you get the analogy) 2.6 has new programming from 2.5, along with some other things, so you get the idea...

I've never been much of a computer person. All this programming stuff is doing my head in. But, I'll definately try and bring myself up to speed with all the technical jargon and programming. Maybe i'll check out one of those dummies books. :geek:

Either way, makes perfect sense. Thanks. :D

Sandbox (cubescript actually, that's sandbox's language) doesn't have any books published at all.

You will have two programs to transfer your maps just go into my_stuff\packages\base then copy all your maps then go into 2.6 and copy it in to my_stuff\packages\base\fps (If you have no fps file you may have to create it)

Also the FAQ and the Wiki has got plenty of information in there to help.
Hope this helps

that should not be necessary
but sandbox will not discriminate against the game module if it is inside packages/base, instead of packages/base/<module>

in other words, using the my_stuff directory from 2.5 should just work inside 2.6
This is not a url, clicking it is pointless
