highlighting and editing messed up on ground level objects

Post by fredjrii »

Hello everyone,

I just downloaded this program a couple of days ago, and am using windows xp.

The problem is that I can't see what I'm highlighting on ground level objects, every move is a giant guessing game as to what will be effected when i go to edit it by raising up the land, or what size of an area will be effected when I'm putting on a different texture. This problem makes a potentially wonderful program unusable for me. I can easily build structures in the sky--my cursor and the outline graph of the highlighted area shows up perfectly off the ground, and while making lava pits in the sky has its novelty, I am unable to do this same simple process on the ground where I really need it because i don't have a clue what I've selected until after i've changed it. :(

I have the little L shape cursor in edit mode, however the little selecting square that normally shows within that is only visible in the sky, it disappears when I point it at the ground, the same is true of the graph that shows up over a highlighted area, I do not have one on the ground, only in areas highlighted in the sky. I've seen the tutorial video and know how it should look.

I've tried re-installing twice, with no effect, and would really appreciate any help.

do you have the stuff in the lower-left corner of your screen? if not, you may have turned the hud off. Try hidehud 0 and see if that works.

maybe you've changed some settings? try esc ---> options ---> graphics and turn everything up (You don't need a good pc for that ;))

I've re-installed the program a few times, so the settings should have been default. My computer's probably 6-7 years old, maybe that's where the problem is.
Anyway thanks for trying to help, but this clearly isn't a common problem and waiting almost two weeks hoping to even begin using the most basic element of this game engine has kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. As fun as this looks, I'm going to find a different 3d game engine, or maybe just work with an isometric view in a 2d engine, or even go back to storyboarding for a while... still lots of work to do there! :) thanks so much to you two who tried to help but clearly its just not going to happen. Peace out and have fun fellow gamers!
