Well, you may lose some of the work you did, but there is a way to get back most of it. Go to the directory where the map is stored and find the latest backup file (identified by the suffix .BAK). The multi-platform version is so that you can compile it to whatever operating system you run. It has nothing to do with who you can collaborate or play with.
