Mike wrote:Stefos keep up the awesome work, I love reading your comics! As a note, it seems you are posing your models outside of Sandbox and then putting them on the Sandbox background. Is this correct, or are you actually posing them in SB? Take care and keep up the awesome work!

PS when do I get my music :D
Hi Mike

The first Comic "Grizzly Times In The Village" was mostly created with models on the map... However for the other comics for speed and ease of use for me...I placed the actors in front of a green screen on the map. I built a map with a large room turned the textures to Cell Type then simply took pictures of the actors in different poses moved the view around the actor to get different angles. Then imported the actors into The Gimp and simply cut out the green background then saved as a png file. The actors png files can now be easily used over and over again in different comics. However sometimes when using certain maps I like to use the actor on the map and take my shots. The following shot was taken on map and really couldn't be done the cut out method as the colours are so strong and I would have to try and match colours of my cut-out actors with the map which would not have been as good as this shot. The new Bic story will mostly be done on map

Over the next few months I will be trying to import my own models into Sandbox and see how this works out and adding new textures onto the maps if I get the hang of importing my own models then you should see some nice comics in the future.

The "Time Traveller" Comic I am planning to replace the textures and build my own maps and also import the models this will also be an on-map comic.

The "Traveler" sets have mostly been built on one map which I have named Toon Town, the same will be done with most of the new comics in the future and with I hope the actors doing their stuff.

Glad you are enjoying the comics......."Bic's Really Big Adventure" which I am writing now as a play format.....this is going to be a giant of a story so I have changed the format of usually making it up as I go along to a proper written story (note: this will be released as one full story and not separate chapter downloads like the last story) , then when I am finished I can start the map building and the placement of the actors....take the shots then import the text. This I hope should show a more professional finish to the comic. Depending on feedback from the Bic's latest and biggest adventure I will either write further adventures of Bic or try something new with the sandbox characters.

The music you asked for is difficult as I used I think about 8 different pieces of music, if I give you a straight rip from the video it will have silent spaces between the tracks. So I have to edit the music after I rip it. I simply have had no time to do this yet. With 3 comics now on the go it takes a lot of my spare time....and Virtual Elounda is now collecting dust ;)

Should have the music sorted soon !

And as a added note I built a new website on my new servers http://www.comix-sandbox.com .....busy busy busy

Wow all that info is very interesting! Thanks for posting it!

So each song isn't longer than how you had it in the video? I think I need to get that program, how much did it cost?

You keep changing your sig on me, I already edited it once to make it clickable D: haha.

What's up with the SB logo on your site? Looks like it was run over by street cleaner.

Have you considered putting google ads on your site? Perhaps it would be an interesting idea to make some money off of the comics. Take care!

Hi Mike

No the music is only as long as you make the video.....so if you make a video 2 minutes long then the music is only 2 minutes long and if you make a video 2 hours long then the music track will be 2 hours long. The program is free and you can download it here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/usin ... fault.mspx

I am planing to re-do the logo...however you don't have a logo as such on your main website....just text ;)

Map Design For Bic's Really Big Adventure

Post by stefos »

Image

Without giving to much of the storyline away, the above picture is a few shots of the yet unfinished Gateway map. This map is the oldest map in the Sandbox world and will have a giant castle that houses the Great Map Maker.

This map in the latest story, is a map that has a giant gate that keeps all the Sandboxers from crossing into the Human world. Between Sandbox world and the Human world is a map of the Desert.

The story is nearly complete, it will run to about six chapters but will be a one comic download. I am thinking of changing the format into a more graphic novel as there is a lot of text been written.

My partner is my biggest critic and she enjoyed reading this story more than the last Bic adventure. It is aimed at a slightly more mature audience but will still be kid friendly.

Before the release of the comic I will be releasing pictures of the castle, the Desert map, keep checking for updates.... ;)

Re: New Sandbox Comix Adventure Games

Post by stefos »

Remember way back when we all used to play the text adventures that came out for the PC's then later with Graphics ?

Well I am playing around with the idea of using one of the multitude of free Adventure Engines and bringing the comics idea to a more interactive life.

Imagine if you are Bic what path would you take in the comic ?

Keep checking for more info soon on this ;)

Bic's latest adventure is ready for download....This is one big comic and runs to 131 pages....because of this the download is a hefty 240 MB in size. There will be no option to read it on-line at this time the file is a PDF Zipped.

You can download it here : http://www.comix-sandbox.com/comix_sand ... ture1.html ;)

ENJOY
