Wings 3d

Okay, so I got Wings 3d yesterday and I'm finding it pretty easy to use. I was wondering how texturing works for Wings...
I think I've seen some tuts say that GIMP would be good to use, however, I'd like to get your guys opinion. So what should I use to texture my models?

I don't know if Gimp can texture 3d models in real time. But i used to use Tattoo 3d and its free, i don't really like it but i haven't found new texturing software.

woah... just looked it up... 250$ for poser 8..... but that's what the person used so.... (I definitely won't be getting it
)
