youre a little wrong there. the *.cfg file assigns the audio file to the map, but you need the correct audio type for it to work, the file must be *.ogg for a higher quality sound, although the engine does support *.mp3. for an ambient sound, eg. Waterfall, Crickets etc. i suggest converting the sound into a *.ogg using an audio converter and then adding it to a new folder in sounds then coding it into your map.cfg file. for music, add it to the music folder then code it into the map.cfg, *.mp3 or *.ogg would work for map music.

i'm probably overcomplicating this, but...

i understand how to place sounds in edit mode and have created a new folder for my oggs

and that i need to write them into my CFG. the sounds that are already there have a strange 7 digit I.D. after them--do i need this?

scoured the site and this post is the closest to knowledge i have come.

thanx for your patience and reply.

I really like the songs: Island shores at night, Last flight and Silent tears from plitanum arts, so I listen to them while making a map

There are some good songs but I'm a big techno fan so I've usually got that running in the background :D

most of the tracks were obtained from newgrounds under a CC-BY-SA-NC license, I can't give you the exact details for them, since I don't know them. there should be a text file in packages/music called "LICENSE" which would hold more info
