quick question: inserting images in Sandbox

Post by DirtyDietz »

hi, i have started using sandbox today to get a 3d-demo for a project im working on (creating an anamorphosis in RL), long story short is it possible to insert an image in a sandbox-map? i've experimented with textures but my picture has to be at least 50x50 blocks big. so i cant paint each one with a different texture.

i'd like to use the map as an walk-in simulation of the future project in real life. any other approaches/ideas are welcome ;-) btw im not into 3d-software, i tried to use blender to make a huge "board" with my picture on it but i failed, and i got no time to learn blender first.

thx for any help, ideas or workarounds!!! :)

btw: im sure this was asked before, i DID use the search-function but couldnt find something about my problem so if this is a re-post and im just to blind or dumb or stressed or whatever, im sorry!

Hey DD!

Thanks for checking to see if your question had already been answered!! ;)

Your question is about getting an image into Sandbox, correct? Alright, so have a look at this: Uploading textures to Sandbox.

That would help you get the image in. Anyway make a big, big grid size and texture whichever wall you want, using the big, big grid :) That will allow you to have a big image (yours) and then you can paint!
Hope that helps!

what do you mean with grid-size? i made a texture thats about 6000x6000 pixels big and pulled a "frame" on the wall i wanted the texture on but the texture had no preview in the texture-menu, just the name when i hovered over the empty spot after the last texture and when i clicked on that it did nothing. is there a way to define how many cubes a texture paints? theres that one tutorial-map with the animated frame, consisting of many jpegs but that picture/texture is only 4x4 cubes big (i need about 50x50)

With the grid size, I mean what the cross hair is when you create blocks. Hold G and scroll to make it bigger. However big it is, that's going to be the size of the texture.

As for textures, I'm not an expert on them so I gave help as far as I was able. But the grid size will be important for creating you big picture! :)
Hope that helps!

OK lets start from the tippy top :) "to make things quick and easy for you"

First follow this guide for easy access and storing for your textures --> viewtopic.php?f=24&t=200

"making your textures like this --> Image"

(2) Load your modified texture "what i mean by modified is custom length and width" some great software to change the size of images are Photo shop and Gimp.

Photo shop --> https://www.photoshop.com/

Gimp --> http://www.gimp.org/

(3) make a wall, and select your texture at the end of the texture list.

If the texture doesn't fit lengthen the wall and cut out the extra parts with a lower grid size "hold G and scroll". you can scroll down the whole map if needed to by selecting the whole map and scrolling down. If the image is to small are to large take it back to photo shop are gimp and re-size.

in the SVN, you can also use a combination of voffset and vscale to tweak them in realtime
This is not a url, clicking it is pointless
