The starting area is right near the edge of the map. To give you a rough idea:

And then the monster would be in a room about a quarter of the way down in an enclosed room.

Ok, my map got messed up so there's a short hallway that splits off after a while in front of the start.

Update: Found out how to fix this, just needed to create another monster (one that would stay alive this time) so the game wouldn't end automatically. Don't know why I didn't think of this sooner
