Assault the HUD is being worked on by Hirato, and if you want a custom one, it's not that hard to make ;)
Assault wrote:Sandbox cannot be relied on AS OF "NOW" "NOW" "NOW" none of the features are out, most of the TUTs never explain where you even put them!
Sandbox is in it's second year of dev. If you compare it to other free game makes (and some paid ones) Sandbox is doing incredibly well for it's second year ;)
Assault wrote:Wow really guys? I never meant hire dev teams, I meant recruit members...
Yes, yes...
Assault also wrote:I know they have dev teams, people are here, why don't you hire dev teams too???
I'm not skilled in coding C++ so what I do is help in the forum with support. I try ideas and I make maps. I've made some good maps too, if you wanna try them 8-)

But instead of saying, "Plus sandbox DOES NOT have much features, lacking the most important, NETWORKING...." why not recommend features instead of saying Sandbox can't be relied on :) Then you're contributing to making this engine better with the features you wanted!

There's a feature request on here and a thread for suggestions for the next release :) ;)

Try them!

That is what I am doing, but I am a bit impatient seeing that 2 years is a lot of time to get minor features in, plus a CHILD version is useless to all of us, we need the adult version ASAP no excuses :S

Patience is a virtue. There aren't many people working on this. Try people who have school and are juggling different things besides Sandbox. If you have nothing to do other than make an engine, be my guest :)

But if your not older than seventeen, don't ask for a "Adult" version. :) This was made for adults and kids. Think about how many non-kid friendly game makers that are out there. Think about the boring "kid friendly" game makers that are. Those aren't that great! Sandbox does the best at incorporating kid fun with open source, making it a great engine. ;)

But what do you mean by minor features?

The Only engine that includes weapons is Cube 2. The Olympus Engine is simple to use but requires an account to be made on the forum before you can download it.

Jeez, what does he want, an engine or a fully built MMORPG?!

I'm in the same predicament as you are Assault, but I didn't go about bashing Sandbox. Yes, it is lacking in it's current state, but considering where it is at, give it a year or two and it will be rivaling most engines out there.

Have you made a game engine before? I assume not. So please, don't start bashing this engine expecting your wishes to be granted. I don't know how to do networking stuff, but I assume it's not easy, and since, as stated, they do not have a whole team working on this, just a few hobbiests, don't expect the Unreal Engine, expect it for what it is. If you wan't it bad enough, code it yourself. Don't expect the small amount of people who contribute to Sandbox to start making it for you.

Yeah. Yesterday i was talking to him on my site. He mentioned using the Visual3D Engine as an editor. 4 Reasons WHY i didnt choose to do so:
  • 1: It sucks Visually.
2: Simplicity isnt its middle name.
    3: The Interface is Hideous.
4: It would take too long to code.
Use what you have. If you like the Visual3D engine. Use it. Dont go wanting an engine to do something complicated when its plan is to be simple. The Olympus Engine is Hard enough to code. Sandbox is getting upgraded soon.

I do recommend going with an engine that you think you like and/or fit's you. Sandbox was like a dream come true! But don't go bashing it just because it doesn't have the violent stuff that it's related cousin (Cube 2) has. This was meant for everybody, even kids, to use. Just my thoughts :)
