Downloaded and installed SB 2.5 into XP 32bit.
After a period of time (ranging from 1 to 10 minutes) SB crashes back to the desktop with no error message.
Before you cry out video drivers and yes, my video card is ATI, I have downloaded the latest drivers for my card (HD 2400 Pro). I have run the application in both 16 and 32 bit with the same result.
I also run SB 2.5 on Ubuntu Linux and again the same results. Ah ha! Video card confirmed, I hear you say.
Using SB normally (IE: running the installed maps) it runs fine. This only happens when I create my own map in Edit mode.
This is not my first time with SB. Some time ago I was running with SB 2.4 and had no problems at all. (yes, using the same graphics card)
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
J
ps: I will try re-installing version 2.4 and let you know how it goes.

Here Johnno, this might help:

Hope that helps!Mike wrote:IMPORTANT: If you have an ATI graphics card and you are experiencing random crashes, there is an OpenGL bug in the newer ATI Drivers. A workaround is to type /oqdynent 0 in the console (hit the ` button above TAB to enter the console).

Arcones,
Thank you for responding so quickly. I am sorry to put you to all that trouble in finding the information that you have provided. But, I had forgotten to mention that, during my research, I too found that suggestion. Tried it. No change. I do appreciate your efforts. Thank you.

Re: Sandbox 2.5 crashes
I would probably recommend re-installing it (if you haven't already
) and looking through the FAQ for SB crashes
Hope that helps!

Re: Sandbox 2.5 crashes
Arcones,
Searched through the forum and found a possible fix. The fix replaces the standard shaders configuration file with the following: http://lee.fov120.com/stdshader.cfg
I have been running 2.5 now for about 30mins without incident. renamed the original "stdshader.cfg" and copied the above into the same "Data" folder. Also created an autoexec.cfg file with the "oqdynent 0" command. Just to be sure. So far so good.
I am trying to recreate my Wolfenstien3D map. Hopefully I can try and complete it.
I will keep you posted.
Again, thank you for the assist.

Re: Sandbox 2.5 crashes
Try updating your drivers, specifically your video card driver.

Re: Sandbox 2.5 crashes
Gr1m,
Thank you for the suggestion.
I had already been to the ATI website; downloaded and installed the up-to-date drivers for my video card; promptly removed them as they totally horrified my display. Reducing it to a 4 bit image. Baaarrrfff....
I have been running SB 2.5 now (with the modified stdshader.cfg) for almost 2 hours without a glitch. It's days like today that I wished ATI would just vanish into a black hole, taking all of it video cards with it.
I have also tested this modification with Sauerbraten and now runs glitch free as well.
Could you recommend a NON ATI video card?
My old box has the following specs:
ASUS P5NSLI mo bo
Intel Dual Core E2200
3 gig ram
PCIe slots
4 x sata slots
the ususal USB, IDE, etc
I run with Ubuntu Linux (luv it!!!!) as my primary OS; WinXP SP3 as the necessary evil OS.
Regards
