paintbrush not working....

I've been trying to use the paintbrush tool (in sandbox 2.5) but it doesn't seem to want to work.

What i've done so far, is select a brush type, the texture, and each possible selection in the 'blend paint mode'.

I'm assuming it's because I'm doing something wrong (it seems to work fine for others), but I'm not sure what.

Any ideas (or the correct steps )
