Ok might i recommend wings 3d?

Blender has a very steep learning curve, and if your just beginning, the wings interface might be a little easier to understand. Also its very easy to make skins in wings 3d.
Then when it comes to animation, here are some links.

Animation in general in blender (if you still want to use blender)

Animation and Modelling of a character in blender (admittedly quite good)

Or you could use misfit model 3d: Its really easy, and in my opinion equally as good.

if you still want blender, here're the tuts I first used to learn blender, I'm OK with it now.

sites 1 and 2 are parts of a tut, site 4 is a wikibook, so a collection of tuts basically.
