2.5 verion I have the player switch

I have version 2.5, which falls from the repositories would not be bad to update the repositories by the way, but that's another story.
what happens is that I give to 9 and does not change player ... as I change the player?
and I installed the 2.6 because I am new to linux and not install packages like Linux, is a problem ... learn with the time .. but for now I'll stick with the 2.5
