Would not execute via desktop icon. Screen flashed for an instant, desktop returned to normal.
Executed via command prompt. Displayed the following error:

install some drivers, I don't think you have direct rendering active right now.

You may be correct. In regards to a possible driver problem.
As the ATI video drivers are proprietary, they are not update-able via open source. In preparation to re-install video drivers, I first had to remove them. Rebooted (just in case). Video drivers gone. Both Sandbox and Saurbraten execute as designed. (without drivers - who would have figured)
I will try to re-install video drivers and try again. At least I know that these two applications will run without drivers.

Re-installed drivers. Same problem. Removed drivers. All ok again. Mongrel ATI drivers!! I think I may have to switch to Nvidia!! (I hope my PC didn't hear that!!)
