Would not execute via desktop icon. Screen flashed for an instant, desktop returned to normal.

Executed via command prompt. Displayed the following error:

john@Baldwin-One:~$ /home/john/PlatinumArtsSandbox2.6.1/sandbox_unix -gfps
Using home directory: /home/john/.platinumarts
init: sdl
init: net
init: game
init: video: mode
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 130 (XFree86-VidModeExtension)
Minor opcode of failed request: 10 (XF86VidModeSwitchToMode)
Value in failed request: 0xb6
Serial number of failed request: 125
Current serial number in output stream: 127

Reboot does not fix the problem.

Any ideas?

install some drivers, I don't think you have direct rendering active right now.

Hirato,

You may be correct. In regards to a possible driver problem.

As the ATI video drivers are proprietary, they are not update-able via open source. In preparation to re-install video drivers, I first had to remove them. Rebooted (just in case). Video drivers gone. Both Sandbox and Saurbraten execute as designed. (without drivers - who would have figured)

I will try to re-install video drivers and try again. At least I know that these two applications will run without drivers.

I will keep you posted. Thanks for the assist.

Regards

J

Hirato,

Re-installed drivers. Same problem. Removed drivers. All ok again. Mongrel ATI drivers!! I think I may have to switch to Nvidia!! (I hope my PC didn't hear that!!)
