2.8 missing textures

I also was confused by the missing buttons, so I just started up the rpg default which puts you into a blank map and then did a manual save at the console
every so often.

I can confirm that double-clicking rpg.bat then pressing F1 at the menu will bring up the edit menu. But if you click on New Map the button won't work. Says there is no game in progress. So instead start a Default RPG, press ESC when it loads, press F1 to bring up the Edit button, click that, type in a different name in the bottom Save Map As box, click on New Map and you should have a fresh map to work with. Be sure to save it as the name you put in the box so you don't overwrite anything! I'm not sure what the console command for that is.
