What are you talking about? Tesseract? That's just a fork by one of the main developers of Sauerbraten adding new shaders.
Hirato wrote that he will merge the fork.

Additionally, the "Cube 3 engine" is pretty much a joke, it was actually put up by one site as an April Fool's joke while other groups keep saying they plan on making the Cube 3 engine.

well its due out at the end of the month in either case, and i think tesseract installed inside the engine, over-riding lightmaps, would be quite useful CPU wise... and if it includes bug fixes as well, i dont really see it as a joke, but an improvement... unreal and cryengine are moving ahead into the 21st century, but are quite heavy... cube is quite slim in comparison, yet still achieves desired results if you put the time into it... i made a pitch for rpg (so to speak) but i still like the folder system of PAS, as it yields more individuality and freedom... but as the chord was pretty well severed from cube in 2.8 with the new PAS script... i dont know... guess i'll just head over to the waiting lobby again... and wait and see... but my feet are pretty much stuck in the mud for now...

these engines are free to us, and a lot of lot of lot of work goes into them by people who dont have to... you know... as you get older, and me and mine are taken care of... and the horizons of hope narrow down... and health and mortality become more important than they use to be... giving back and leaving a thumbprint on humanity take its turn... and... well... thats another story for another day...

Where are you getting this information? While any improvements are good, it would take a lot of them (or a few, not just one, considerably large/important improvements like Tesseract) to be able to call something a new engine, as opposed to a better version.

well when it went from cube to cube 2, was it not the same basic engine... really, i dont know what the squabble is, i could care less whether he calls it cube 3 or cube 2.1... its his engine, i have no say in that... i'm just saying that i hope its improved enough (its been what, 2yrs) that things work and can be easily modified... i really have no dog in this fight... its just nice that he's doing it... and once i have all my 'finial' software, then i can start... be-cause the way programmers seem fight and squabble, i'd really rather just get my software and do it on my own (i.e. i'm taking my software and i'm going home)... and start making games... which is really what its all about, dont you think...

I think there are 2 guys left developing Sauerbraten:
Lee Salzmann, who made Tesseract
and Wouter van Oortmerssen, who worked e.g. on the CryEngine

They founded a company: http://dot3labs.com/
