Newbie Qs - it does not seem kid friendly!

My 7yo son started using Sandbox at C3Cyberclub today, and greatly enjoyed it.

When he got home we downloaded the latest version of the program and installed it on a netbook running Windows 7 (starter edition) so that he could play around with it during the week. However, the program seems different from the one used at C3Cyberclub.

First, every mode we tried at home is far from kid friendly, as the defaults are either a first-person shooter with a shotgun (using the "Sandbox Launcher") or a first-person shooter with a pistol (using the "click me first" file.) That just doesn't seem right, especially when the FAQ states "Sandbox is intended to be kid friendly. In the RPG there is "action" with a melee vegetable extractor and spells. Also we will be doing a child friendly squirt gun battle mode. However if someone wanted to make adult violence from the rpg and water gun mode they certainly could though that is not our current focus."

Did we install the wrong version? How do we get to the defaults that are supposed to be kid-friendly?

Also, I noticed the program defaulted to installing to the desktop. We changed it to install in the programs directory, then manually created a shortcut to the launcher. Is it not supposed to create a desktop shortcut on it's own?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

If you downloaded 2.8.1, there should be a folder called "education" or something like that inside, last I checked that is the kid-friendly version. What the wiki says is outdated (in general many parts of the wiki are outdated as of 2.8), and I believe that we have not yet been able to create suitable replacements for the default weapon models.

Probably.

Thanks for the reply.

It's 2.8.1.

No education folder; nothing like that at all, just the 'readme' file for educators. I searched all the subfolders too; no luck.

:(

Downgraded to 2.7.1, which they mention in the video tutorials. My son says it looks just like what he saw at the school, so I guess that's the version we want. Thanks to those involved for keeping it available.

Still, it would be nice to be able to access the educational version in 2.8.1, without the shoot-em-up defaults.
