Exits full screen unexpectedly in ubuntu

Post by den31 »

I am currently running Ubuntu Ultimate 2.4, at the time of the original post I was running 2.3. I have compiled form the downloaded file and i have installed it from playdeb.net and in every instance it starts and runs for 5-10 minutes and then leaves full screen and makes my computer hang to where I cant do anything and I eventually have to hit the power button to restart the system. My initial thoughts where maybe it was video drivers or just the os but I have found that it has something to do with the gnome desktop. It seems to run fine under kde. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or knows of a patch or fix. Thanks for any and all help.

Intel core 2 duo 2.6 ghz
2.5 gigs of pc5200

nvidia quadro nvs 140m 512 megs of ram(using the 180.x driver from hardware manager)

This is a laptop by the way. Dell Latitude D830 I have tried to disable compiz also and didnt help. am I better off just running under wine? :?

It still might be a good thing to change your video card drivers. I remember hirato was having trouble with the linux video card drivers in general on ubuntu and for me on Windows I was having trouble with the newer nvidia drivers where it was crashing my machine in games and I ended up reverting back to older versions. Take care.
