As a habit, I create a launcher, to run the program. But, as per your request, I did as you asked.

Executed 'sandbox' and got the previous error as before... Executed './sandbox_unix' (from the directory via a terminal or a launcher) and the program ran flawlessly.

Interesting. Well the good news is we are learning a ton about Sandbox on linux. It looks like it is looking for the binary in /usr/local/bin/sandbox I'm curious to try putting the binary or a link to it in there and seeing if it would work. Being able to type Sandbox in the terminal and have it execute I believe was the entire point of the "installation". Thank you so much for your help testing all this!

Not a problem. Anytime.

Note: I think it was either version 2.6.1 or 2.7.1 that used to be included in Ubuntu's repository. But, for some reason, it was dropped. Unfortunate, as it was so much easier to install... I might even try finding the installation file... who knows, it may still work...

Another note: I also tried to execute 'sandbox' using it full address from a terminal (./usr/local/bin/sandbox) I didn't think it would work... but was worth a try...

They have a version of Sandbox in the Ubuntu store that is listed at 2.8.2 but the file is only a few megs big. Also it tries to use the gui launcher to launch instead of the script. I'm currently trying to track down the maintainer and also the app store people so that at the very least I can update the description and point people to the correct file. I've even tried leaving a review but apparently reviews don't work anymore in the app store.
https://apps.ubuntu.com/cat/application ... gamemaker/

It is also in the Ubuntu Software Center if you search sandboxgamemaker

The SandboxGameMaker was my first choice... All it appeared to do was to launch maps. This infers that PAS would have to be installed prior to installing SandboxGameMaker. I thought if was a bit suspect when the file size was only 14meg... It appears that Ubuntu/Mint no long has PAS in the repository. I will continue to search for the old PAS deb files but I do not like my chances... lol

For the moment, PAS runs, and runs quite well... My 10 year old grandson wanted me to make him a Mario Brothers games using PAS... but it has to have LOTS of lava. He enjoys players falling into lava. Kids... Interesting concept. Platforms are basic rectangles. Ladders can be replaced by elevators. Plenty of treasures and badguys... I may have to do a crash-course in scripting... Just in case... Sounds like fun...

I digress. Many thanks for your assist so far. Best of luck with the 'app store people'

My caffeine levels are too low... Must 'recharge' 'before' building games... lol

You might want to check out Save The Princess 2. It has lots of lava and jump platforms.

Also if your Grandson likes Minecraft, you might want to show him D.'s Sandbox. I'm not sure if I included a Linux binary but I could send one over. It's rather dated compared to the version I'm working on but you should be able to do quite a bit with the citybuilder game type. My students have lots of lava fun especially with the mod "cityscape" enabled.

I hope you have a great night and please feel free to share screens of your levels!

My grandson's both liked Save the Princess specially when I didn't quite make it to a building... They have both seen #2, and yes, plenty of lava... I suppose I was spared the humiliation by NOT bursting into flames... They got a BIG kick out of that... *sigh*

"share screens of your levels"? Still a concept at the moment. Pencil sketch and a rough 2D graphical layout. Bare bones at that... But it might be a smidgen big... May have to scale it down for "level 1"
platform.png
(Start on the left; Finish on the right)

Lifts, treasures, bad guys and hazards have not been added yet... the player's ability to jump in PAS will determine the "height" of the level. I think this is going to take a while... Scripting is going to be a challenge. Apart from the Wiki, can you recommend video and or pdf material?

I think I will need a LOT of coffee for this one... lol

Sooo cool!!! Man I miss making levels, I think I need to!

Also I came across this today, I had it under the "old releases" section:
http://www.playdeb.net/software/Sandbox%20Game%20Maker

I've also found that Sandbox plays really nicely with Blender. I'm interested in using it to create scenes for animations. My 2nd Graders went crazy when I made this little animation for them:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9un6Q--HVs

I even opened up the .blend file and showed them how it worked and even took some requests for other animations to have him make. Neat stuff. If you are interested in testing a Sandbox scene in blender, you make an .obj in Sandbox by typing /writeobj I recommend starting with something smaller.

I hope you are having a great day and I'm becoming really inspired to work on SB again :D

Whoops I just realized I missed the bottom part of your post. I don't think I ever enabled the monsters to do damage to the players since the focus was/is schools, but if you use master chef orgo I do have monsters that shoot spells and do damage. The RPG Mode does have spells and monsters who can shoot them as well so that might be worth looking into. As far as lifts, the main thing is to make sure you are in single player aka /sp You can pick up objects in master chef ogro and the RPG mode too. I'm not sure which one is better. Master Chef Ogro is easier to edit the script file but the RPG is a bit more powerful but much more complicated and there isn't a lot of documentation.

I have made a very rough level, based on the previous "sketch", that took me many, many, many minutes to put together.
level 1.png
I am thinking of placing a thin "skybox" on either side of the level. Just so the player wont "fall" off the platform... lol (just a thought...)

Hmm... I had completely forgotten about the "schools" part of the game... Not a problem. Will modify completion based on objects found or something like that...

The last "big" project I did was a recreation of the old Wolfenstein 3D. Did not know how to import textures, so it was made with what was in the library, which made it look plain and boring. Not the library! Just the lack of original scenery made the game "ordinary"... I need more coffee...
