hi,

while most of the functions are running client side the connection between server and client in PAS needs only a very small bandwidth [ some people say, it runs smooth on 56K modem connection ;) ]. so i think its not a lag issue. i suggest to check your graphics card configuration or try to start the client without or minimal use of shaders.

which OS are you using? what kind of video card?

the 3rd person mode just requires you to hit 9
That's all there is to it.

If you want to keep it that way (correct me if I'm wrong guys) you'd have to code that in.

Hope this helps.

Arc

i usually blame it on the landscape and the components in the map, if you have mountains in view the FPS seem to be very low, wheras if you have flatlands in view it tends to be quite smooth, i manage to live with it most of the time, yet it does get annoying sometimes.

water/lava etc. has a big influence on lagging.

If you're making a big map I would definately recommend using PVS. It helps hugely with lag issues.

Go to the main menu (Esc), Editing GUI, PVS, now I'm not entirely sure what the sliders are at the bottom but to experiment with them I put the view gridsize at around 2000, threading at 4 and leafsize at 200. At these settings it only took a minute or two and I didn't notice any difference in the map except that the lag had improved considerably.

I would save a backup though first, just in case. I really don't know what it does exactly so.

Backups are alway useful, curious of what something does, Save a backup, then test it out.

I always do a backup of a map constantly anyway. I've lost 2 maps because I've saved one map, gone on to another then saved that one as the same thing.

yeah, that happened several times to me, i saved my mod of mansion over my map that took me 5 days to make.

I considered adding PAS to my Browsing machine. it seems that the lagging has jsut gone away as i used to suffer from it quite a lot, especially on village_rpg due to the large amount of water, trees and slopes. this machine has better specs than my other one. 1 GB RAM is a vast improvement.
