Hey my name is Elias Marion , I'm a hobbyist mapper and have been a member of the quake 3, 4 , Doom3, Unreal, and nexuiz communities off and on for years. I heard of the Cube 2/Sauerbraten engine and now have discovered the Platinum Arts Sandbox. The editmode is awesome and I generally like the functionality of the game itself. I want to mess around for now and familiarize myself with map creation for cube before I attempt any real projects. I have a few questions which are probably pretty basic and if anyone could give me a few pointers that would be great.

First off I need some insight into Cube texture library system, it looks simple but I'm not quite sure how to add new texture packs and integrate them into the game. Also how can I sort the textures which will be on display in the editor? I want to take a few classic texture packs from the quake community and make myself a convenient free-license pack of dope art for cube.

Just a note : I love the ingame edit, for me somehow it makes building terrain and outdoor environments so much more intuitive somehow. I look forward to exploring way more creative level options with this. Its like an awesome new set of legos.

Hello Elias, welcome!

If you want to add models add it in on the cfg file.
Please look at the Faq:

And the wiki:

Happy Building!

you define the texture list via configuration files, generally you'd create a package.cfg inside the directory housing your textures and then you'd execute it inside data/default_map_settings.cfg

for the best reference for configuring things, please see the sauerbraten documentation. ours is poorly written and outdated at best

Well would Sauerbraten perhaps be a better choice for me to use ? That's another question I had, and this one is real dumb. I have used blender in the past to model terrain for levels, I think Cubes method is way funner and faster but that is just it I can't seem to develop a method for making the outdoor areas, cliffs and ramps look good. Are there perhaps any video tutorials on this topic ? "The technique of terrain creation"
