Lol, missed this message. I would have made some for you too, but it's probably too close to the deadline now. I can make it up to you by making some music for your game engine maybe (as you've asked before, but I missed the messages...)?jSoftApps wrote:Hey cork, could you possibly do some music for my entry?

No problem cork! I used your track "secrets" for the game. Anyway I'm kinda looking for some portal 2 style music for my game engine. I used to compose music but now I'm far to busy.
Thanks!
Thanks!

@jsoft: how old are you again? You don't sound like any 13-year old I've ever met.
1. Engine modding, source editing
2. Music making
3. Modeling
4. Texturing
5. The web site
that's all I can think of for now. Anyways, I'm downloading your game (also downloaded Kelgar), yours downloaded faster even though I think it said it had a bigger filesize (196 mbs to Kelgar's 98)... weird. I'll post a review here (via editing).
EDIT: I can't seem to open the downloaded .zip file, winzip said something about a bad download or a corrupted file. Could you re-upload it? I'll try again tomorrow.
I mean, lemme see here...jsoftapps wrote:You're banned because COPPA is what group you're in if you're under 13

JSoft, your host is terrible, you should be ashamed.
I assume you know that if no one can download your entry, you're in last place by default, right?
You should probably consider something like mediafire.

Re: [January Mapping Contest entry] Sandopolis!
I uploaded it this time with FTP. I had a 6 times higher upload rate, but it seems like the download rate has decreased. Would be nice if someone mirrors it.chocolatepie33 wrote: [...] Anyways, I'm downloading your game (also downloaded Kelgar), yours downloaded faster even though I think it said it had a bigger filesize (196 mbs to Kelgar's 98)... weird. EDIT: Lol forget about the mirroring. I just realised that it was automatically mirrored on gamefront.com when I submitted the game to IndieDB.
Kelgar is an advanced RPG beeing developed in Sandbox

Re: [January Mapping Contest entry] Sandopolis!
@jsoft: now downloading, will post review later.
EDIT: Here's the review. But first... I think I might've gotten a bad copy or something, because it really seems like the whole game was half-finished or something.
cons:
not super original title (as mentioned)
Steve!? Why not have a name input and use that from the beginning onwards?
missing window (doctor's house), see screenie
lots of spelling/grammar mistakes
houses are kinda cramped and weird (spoiler alert: how would robbers break houses?)
nothing really happens (in my version, anyways), I just ran around and repeatedly talked to people, no mapchanges or anything
no rpg elements (spells, etc), just people mostly
pros:
relatively cool custom GUI and loadingscreens
good plot... beginnings
neutral:
use of certain textures w/ license issues
"start"... not a good name for a .bat apparently (typing in start in command prompt opens a new command prompt.)
The missing window (that I jumped through): Like said, I might have a bad copy or something, as the whole thing just seemed to be unfinished.
I don't feel like doing this, but I'm giving it a 3/10. If you upload a better version, I'll give you the score of the better one. Fair enough?

Re: [January Mapping Contest entry] Sandopolis!
my review
Packaging
Everything seems to be in order... except you didn't include a script to launch the linux binaries.
9/10
RPG stuff
Dialogue is very sparse and rudimentary and the available responses don't seem to change at all based on previous dialogue options.
Surely we should be able to interrogate the villagers for more information and not accept the main quest as many times as we like.
There doesn't seem to be any way to progress from promising to help the villagers. By the looks of the scripts, you intended to place a trigger for moving towards the forest somewhere in the village.
....
The forest is seems very unfinished and is dark enough to warrant a light source.
There is an angry bear, but he can't attack me; there are no waypoints to guide him towards me (and why do I not have a weapon? variables.cfg seems to imply that I was meant to be able to defeat him).
This level also appears to have no means of progressing.
....
The castle map looks weird and the showdown with Amon is incredibly anticlimatic.
Him> What are you doing here?!
You> Give everyone back their stuff!
Him> Why?
You> I'll tell everyone and you'll get thrown in jail!
Him> Okay...
7/50
Code
It looks like you tried to give a lot of people a level lower than 1.
"Ben" is invisible (or was his appearance stolen?).
You really should not use 'map' for moving the player between them, use r_teleport - this was designed for intermap travel.
While you've made no other mistakes, there is nothing remotely impressive in them either.
7/20
Misc
There were a lot of errors regarding missing files.
In addition there are also a few places where I could get stuck - use noclip (or clip) for these areas in the future
And where is the voice acting you promised us?
7/20
Final Verdict
30/100; F
The concept does have some merit, especially under capable hands.
Unfortunately these hands are not yours and you've given us something that is half-baked and poorly executed at best.

Re: [January Mapping Contest entry] Sandopolis!
Thank you Hirato. I've always been bad at the RPG mode. I've actually never tried to learn it up until the last few days of the contest. I guess I rushed the entire thing because I'm already in a major time crunch (eg. school, sports, my other games).
Now if this would have been a FPS mode contest to make a FPS game, I would have nailed it
