how to start with rpg mode on mac

Hello,
Just downloaded the sandboxgamemaker after seeing some movies on it.
As i am on mac i needed to download the previous version (2.8).
Editing a maps seems to be going easy, but i want to make a step forward and make something other then fps.
But, how do i get the sandboxgamemaker into the rpg mode?
I see some tutorial on getting started for the rpg mode but i get lost at the copy step.
Can i use scripts in fps mode also?
