SOUND/MUSIC CREATION TUTORIAL
SOUND/MUSIC CREATION TUTORIAL
Hi there -
I have noticed that there is a serious lack of sound/music programming tutorials for Sandbox. I can see there is one topic in here relating to this, but it seems kinda complicated. Does anyone have a better resource? I am a music educator looking to use sandbox to teach school kids how to make music and sound design for interactive environments.
It would be great if someone with the knowledge and expertise on sound programming could give an easy to understand and detailed breakdown of the steps needed to achieve this, right from the creation of an object that will have sound associated with it to saving it for use in the gamestate.
This is, afterall, for the kids - so thanking you in advance!
Miles
PS - it also seems that the tutorial wiki located at http://sandboxgamemaker.com/wiki/index. ... rials_List has most of the topics in "red" - i.,e - the link contains NO information...? Why is this?

Re: SOUND/MUSIC CREATION TUTORIAL
Due to the fact this isn't a tutorial, I'll be moving this to Sandbox Chat. Please note that any further questions can go to the Support Section, and all Sandbox related ideas can go to the Sandbox Chat Section.
This section is for Tutorials and Resources alone.
Thanks,
Arcones

Re: SOUND/MUSIC CREATION TUTORIAL
The case is probably that not a lot of video game designers are really looking into the music and sounds part of game creation. I don't know anything about music, of course, and I don't know a lot of people that actually do...

What kind of tutorial are you looking for exactly, as in how to make music for a project, what program to use, or how to put the music in the game?
Re: SOUND/MUSIC CREATION TUTORIAL
Hi Thorneakavar -
I am looking for a tutorial on how to put music and sound design int he game.
Thanks.

Re: SOUND/MUSIC CREATION TUTORIAL
Actually the truth is, that in large-scale commercial game production there is significant attention given to the sound/music in game design. This is because on that level they are treated very much like film productions. Imagine a film with no sound/music - now try and imagine a game without any at all, even if it is not produced with the same level of attention as the graphics and gameplay.... ?chocolatepie33 wrote:The case is probably that not a lot of video game designers are really looking into the music and sounds part of game creation. There is an interesting forum and online resource for interactive audio study/discussion/development - Interactive Audio Special Interest Group IASIG.org. Well worth looking at if you are interested. There is a lot on there about game audio but it doesn't help me - I already have a masters degree in music with specialisation in interactive audio - what I need help with is how to do this in Sandbox.
Rgds,

Re: SOUND/MUSIC CREATION TUTORIAL
Me, if I knew how to do it!
Re: SOUND/MUSIC CREATION TUTORIAL
Darn - you got my heart jumping there for a second! Sigh!!
I am DESPERATE for help with the following related to this topic - I really hope someone will oblige:
Can someone please explain the following:
1. what do these numbers 255 32767 // 9 mean in example - mapsound "q009/ambient1" 255 32767 // 9 ?
2. If I create a fireplace for example, I want the sound to trigger and then fade away as the player moves away from the fire and gets louder as moves closer. Please show code needed with explanation of how to do this!? It was done by the designers (mike, Hirato) but for the life of me, by looking at the cfg files I cannot see how they did it. Then:
3. How do you edit it actually within the game edit mode??? What do you write/how and what function do you use?
I have been battling with this for weeks and weeks now. we are trying to use Sandbox (FOR KIDS......) in a school here to teach kids how to make video games WITH music/sound.
Can ANYONE help with this? A simple explanation by anyone or demonstration of this has been very hard to come by so far.
If I can't do this by the end of this week, we will completely abandon Sandbox as a tool for teaching kids how to use PC games. Unfortunate because the project is going to be in an international music teaching magazine.
PLEASE!!
Regards,
Miles
