Hello PAS, I LOVE the engine!
But i know how to make it a whole lot powerful.
Today, while playing my favorite game, LOVE, i thought about what they used to make the game.
Verse.

So what is verse?
Verse allows you to connect people and programs.
For example: Blender is part of verse. LOVE has this scene editor called Co-On. It is part of verse.
You are in Co-On and notice a messed up model. you open the model in blender and edit it in real time(when u edit it in blender, you see the change IMMEDIATELY while in Co-on w/o saving.

But thats only the beginning of verse. This is the main reason i think you should use it:
Connecting programs to work with eachother.
Somebody could make a verse app to work with sandbox..for example, there own map editor or GUI editor. It could even be as powerful as a gametype editor.
So instead of just giving out the source code, let them make their own programs to cooperate WITH sandbox.

Uni-Verse Verse Homepage:

Verse Demo/More info:

Sure verse hasn't been updated since 2007, but its the app that counts. The server is perfected!
Thanks, hope you fulfill my request! :D

Verse was a very cool tech, but Blender doesn't support it anymore. The project split in two basically, Eskil Steenberg (the LOVE developer) doing his own thing, and the Uni-Verse project basically being left in the dust. The verse server has been going through a re-write the past year or so, with very little progress to be shown. What we're left with is a bunch of apps that aren't interoperable because they can only connect to certain server versions, which kind of defeats the purpose of the whole thing..

How much has LOVE changed since the alpha btw? I played it then, and it was ok, but I donno, it didn't give me the same sense of narrative that Wurm or DwarfFortress or other "sandboxy" games did..

LOVE has changed a lot. lots of new items and features everyday. A lot of players have joined now and its almost getting hard to find a nice place to settle. Thanks for talking more about Verse. Guess i got caught up talking about the good stuff i didnt even think about the bad.
